You register for the promotion, transfer at least $25,000 in total from another institution into a Trade, Managed Investing, or Crypto account, and Wealthsimple pays 1% of the net transferred amount as a cash bonus.
The match is split into 24 equal monthly payments deposited into a Wealthsimple chequing account, with the first arriving after the full transfer settles. The catch is the holding rule. Cash deposits do not count (only transfers from another investment institution qualify), and after the qualification period you cannot withdraw more than 20% of the net funding for 730 days.
Go past that buffer and your remaining monthly payments are reduced proportionally, though already-paid installments are kept. The headline "up to $20,000" figure requires transferring the full $2,000,000 qualifying-funding cap, so most people earn far less: a $25,000 transfer pays $250 over two years.
Eligibility is limited to Canadian Wealthsimple clients. Active Trader status holders get a separate upgraded 3% rate (up to $60,000) under a different offer, but the standard rate here is 1%. You must initiate transfers within 30 days of registering and have them settle within 90 days of that window closing.
