The reward is paid into a General Investment Account and both the referrer and the friend must stay funded with Lightyear for six months after receiving it, with net funding of at least the qualifying deposit plus the reward value. Lightyear's UK Refer a Friend scheme rewards both you and the friend you invite once they open their first Lightyear account through your link and make a qualifying deposit of at least £100 (or the equivalent in another currency) within 30 days.
The reward is randomized: Lightyear's terms give an 80% chance of £10 to £20, 15% of £21 to £50, 3% of £55 to £75 and 2% of £76 to £100, so £10 to £20 is the realistic expectation. Rewards that go into an account, such as cash or fractional shares, can only be paid into a General Investment Account, not an ISA.
The catch is the lock-up. Both you and your friend must stay funded with Lightyear for at least six months after receiving the reward, keeping net funding (deposits minus withdrawals and outgoing transfers) of at least the qualifying deposit plus the reward value, and Lightyear can take the reward back if either of you falls short.
The scheme is open to UK residents only, the referrer must have been told by Lightyear that they are eligible to refer, and the friend must never have held a Lightyear account. A monthly cap on rewards per referrer applies and is shown in the app. These terms apply from 1 September 2026.
